Resilient essay
“Before cancer I just lived. Now I live strong” stated Lance Armstrong. My grandma and Lance Armstrong are the two people that are resilient to me. My grandma played a big part of my life, always there loving and taking care of me. But later she died of cancer. Lance Armstrong is another resilient person to me because he had cancer, fought very hard, and did not give up, just like my grandma. My grandma fought as long as she could.
My grandma Shirley Gaber is resilient to me because we were close and that she did not stop fighting to cure the cancer that she had. My grandma was diagnosed with cancer in 2002 and died on November 30th, 2005 because of lung cancer. My grandma quoted “Always do the right thing” I have always tried to keep that in mind because that is something that she always stood by and she new that my sisters and I knew right from wrong. My grandma also said a lot is “Don’t be afraid to try new things” and what she meant was not to go through life without trying that food that you hate or that sport or anything like that. These things that I have said a show me that my grandma is resilient because she was a big remodel in my life, taught me new things, etc. also that she fought to try to cure cancer. Lance Armstrong and my grandma both fought hard to cure cancer and he did and my grandma fought hard to.
Lance Armstrong is a resilient person because he had testicular cancer that spread to his brain and he overcame this by fighting hard to cure it and he did. Lance was diagnosed with cancer in 1996 and had a 50/50 chance to survive and he did. After Lance was cured he went on to win the Tour De France 7 times in a row. Lance quoted “Pain is temporary but quitting last s forever”. I think that he is say you will go through tough times but don’t quit because you will regret it later on down the road. Lance Armstrong is resilient person because he had cancer that could have killed him but he cured and did not stop cycling, and he also went on to win the Tour De France 7 times in a row. My grandma and Lance Armstrong relate to me because they both had cancer and I had a person in my family that had cancer (my grandma).
I connect with Lance Armstrong and my grandma because they both struggled with cancer and I know how he feels and how much of a struggle it is because my grandma lived with us and I saw how had it was for her. This connection is important because I know what they have both been through and I respect both of them for trying and getting cured of this deadly disease. Lance and my grandma connect with my life because of the cancer and I know what they went through.
